Riding My Bike

I haven’t taken the time to ride my bike all year, until this morning.  Wow!  I rode down to the middle school where my 12 year old had an early track practice.  Coming back up the hill toward home, it was tough.  My legs were burning.  I realized how my body was having to adjust to the situation and be reminded of how this bike riding thing works.  And then in the home stretch, a long gradual down hill, the wind rushing up to meet me, I remembered the magic.  The thrill of being fully alive on a summer day.

One of the things I keep meaning to do, is spread a blanket out in the backyard some evening and snuggle with my family while watching the stars.  How many of you are taking the time to ride your bike or gaze at the stars?  Maybe it’s not bike riding or star gazing for you.  It might be a walk after dinner, or a cool swim, it might even be curling up in a hammok and reading a good book.  Whatever it is, I want to remind you it’s mid July, and summer is slipping away as it always does.  Don’t let it!
